FAQs
I have CMPA in another province/territory, is that sufficient?
No, you must contact the CMPA (1 800 267-6522) and inform them of the dates you will be working in the NWT. Otherwise you will not be covered. Please ask them to fax a copy of your update to 867 669-4128.
Does it cost anything to obtain credentials in the NWT?
No, there is no cost associated with your credentials application. The licence does, however, have a cost associated with it. Please call the Registrar at 867 920-8058 for details.
Must I reapply every year?
Yes, under the Hospital and Health Care Facility Standards Regulations a privilege expires one year from the date it is granted. A medical practitioner may renew privileges by applying in writing.
In the NWT most medical practitioners’ privileges expire on March 31st - the end of the fiscal year. They must then apply in writing for reappointment.
Note: Medical practitioners applying for the first time will be recommended for a maximum of 6 months privileges whereupon their performance will be reviewed and their privileges extended to the end of the fiscal year if satisfactory.
Note: Privileges will not be extended beyond the period of the practitioner’s NWT licence.
