FUNCTION STATEMENT

Welcome to the Stanton Territorial Emergency Department.  The Emergency Department is a collaborative team of Yellowknife Health and Social Services Authority physicians, along with Stanton Territorial Health Authority nurses and other health professionals.  The Emergency Department is prepared and equipped to provide comprehensive emergency care to patients of all ages in consultation with Stanton Territorial Health Authority medical and surgical specialties to treat acute illness and injuries.  Services for patients with minor illnesses or injuries are also provided.

Another component of the Department is as territorial hub for urgent patient transport and Medevacs.  Every day we are coordinating the care and transportation for seriously ill or injured patients in and out of Yellowknife.  Our Emergency Physicians also provide telemedicine services to remote hospitals and nursing stations.

It is the mission of the Staton Territorial Emergency Department to provide high quality compassionate care for patients of all ages for any perceived emergency health need.  As a teaching site, we are committed to academic excellence, and to be leaders in the specialty of Emergency Medicine in Northern Canada.  We strive to work towards our mission in a respectful environment that fosters personal and professional pride, satisfaction and growth.
